As most of you know, we recently made our bi-annual voyage to Atlanta for the AmericasMart. This particular journey functioned not only as a buying trip, in this instance, a reunion as well.

Our fun friend color, oh how we’ve missed you. Have you been hiding? After what seemed like an eternity of monochromatic blah, jolts of high velocity color have reemerged. Emerald green and casts of blue burst through the beige and add contrast.

 

 

That isn’t to say that our neutral palette has gone away completely, that old dependable is still maintaining a firm presence. But, gone are the days of the all over burlap bath. White, perhaps the most underappreciated neutral, is a breath of fresh air. Adding much needed lightness.

 

 

Now those safe neutrals are sexy. They seduce you with their calm comfort and then make you smile with a mention of color.

As many well known designers have postulated, mixing textures and tones is critical to the success of a space. But, a couple of years ago, the color Grinch snuck in overnight and stole all of the joy. The contrast, the glimpses of metallic and fun had vanished. Showroom after showroom, catalog after catalog, all beige and burlap. How drab. While a cocoon of colorlessness may be soothing for a time, eventually our imaginations long for saturated hues and sparkle. Thankfully color has returned from its hiatus and the full spectrum shines again. Welcome back style, and more importantly, welcome back fun.
